Our relationship with the Government of Canada will primarily revolve around trade, training, and other issues such as port security.  As a deep-water port, we are subject to a number of security regulations established post-911 by Canada and US Homeland Security.

In the recent months Ottawa has launched a number of inititiatives that our MP, John Duncan, has been helpful in gaining access for Neucel. These include the Business Capital Assistance Program which is delivered through Export Development Canada and the Business Development of Canada.

In addition, the Goverment of Canada has initiated the Pulp and Paper Green Transforamtion Program. This is a program designed to assist mills such as Port Alice rebuild their systems for generating power. The program will encourage the use of biomass as fuel and ease the reliance of industry on fossil fuels. The program allows for iimprovements in environmental procedures for the mill as well. With this program Neucel intends to rebuild the recovery boiler, the hog boiler, the acid plant, and build a new woodroom.
